Our Story

DriveTrain Solutions Ltd is owned and operated by Julian and Ann Clark

Julian began his career in the early 1970s, driving LGV 1 refrigerated trucks across the UK and Europe. He later moved into transport management with the same well-known logistics company, where he spent 21 years, working his way up to Distribution Manager. During that time, Julian also became the CPC holder on the O Licence for three depots on the outskirts of London - distribution centres serving three prestigious high street names.

When Julian and Ann later launched a specialist recruitment business for drivers and logistics staff, they quickly spotted a major problem:

There was very little formal training available, especially for drivers.

So they began developing practical workshops focused on the real-world topics drivers needed most - such as:

Drivers’ hours legislation
Correct use of tachographs
Completing charts properly

As Julian puts it:

“Drivers did the vocational training and took their test and somehow, miraculously, they were supposed to know all about drivers hours legislation without any training! The best that could be hoped for would be help from their mates in a transport cafe. There were a number of misconceptions as a result of this type of knowledge gathering.”

Meet The Team

Julian Clark MILT

Managing Director

Julian’s roots in logistics go back more than five decades. He started out behind the wheel in the early 1970s, driving refrigerated LGV Class 1 vehicles throughout the UK and across Europe. That hands-on experience laid the foundation for a long and successful move into transport management, where he spent 21 years with a leading logistics provider, progressing to the role of Distribution Manager.

Alongside his management responsibilities, Julian also held the CPC for multiple operating licences, overseeing compliance across three London-area depots supplying major high street brands.

When Julian and Ann went on to establish their specialist recruitment business for drivers and logistics professionals, their industry insight highlighted a clear gap: drivers were expected to meet high standards with very little structured training to support them.

In response, they set about creating practical, no-nonsense workshops designed around the everyday realities of the job - covering essential areas such as drivers’ hours rules, tachograph use, and accurate record-keeping.

Wayne Stroud
Director

Wayne joined DriveTrain Solutions Ltd as a Director in September 2025, bringing over 40 years of experience within the commercial driving and transport sector. Starting his career as a professional driver in the early 1980s, Wayne quickly developed a strong understanding of the realities of life on the road. He later returned to full-time education, gaining a degree in Business Administration, before progressing into senior roles as a Transport and Distribution Manager. Wayne first met Julian in 1996, beginning a professional relationship that led to him joining Julian’s recruitment business as Operations Manager in 1998 and purchasing the franchise in 2002. Their collaboration and friendship have now spanned more than 30 years.

A strong advocate for driver development, Wayne became a CPC Instructor in 2009 and continues to deliver theory and practical training to commercial drivers. His passion for training, combined with extensive operational experience, underpins his role at DriveTrain Solutions Ltd.
