More about Forklift Licence

Training Time and Cost

It is not likely in this day and age that an individual would have an easy time getting a job driving a forklift without at least some training. Most companies today are looking for formal training and certification for all new hires. In so doing, they are able to hire drivers ready to get to work with no need for in-house training. If you are hoping to be a professional forklift operator, you would do well to undergo training and certification before you start looking for work.

The initial certification courses offered by the HGV Training Centre are available under three options:

Reach Forklift Course – Our Reach Forklift course runs for 5 days and gives the trainee an understanding of the correct and safe operation of a Reach forklift truck, the cause of instability of the lift truck, and learning the routine pre-use inspection of the truck. The 5 days course will include classroom and practical elements and on completion will be entered into the National Delegate Register.

Counterbalance (up to 5 ton) Forklift Course – Our Counterbalance Forklift course is run in very much the same way as our Reach course. It is a 5-day course that gives the trainee an understanding of the correct and safe operation of a Reach forklift truck, the cause of instability of the lift truck and learning the routine pre-use inspection of the truck. The 5 days course will include classroom and practical elements and on completion will be entered into the National Delegate Register.

Counterbalance AND Reach Forklift Course – This is a 7-day course (usually) which covers a trainee on both forklift types. The course usually consists of a 5-day counterbalance course, and then a 2-day conversion course to get the full certification to be able to operate 99% of the forklift trucks in the UK.

We may be able to offer other types of Forklift courses but in our experience, we have found that the courses described above are suitable for the vast majority of those wanting to operate a Forklift truck.
As for the cost, different training companies have different pricing structures. Our courses are priced according to the kind of training individual drivers to need. We can assure you that all training is very affordable for most budgets. If you want to be trained and do not have the cash on hand, we work with a financing partner to provide financing for all the classes we teach. Be sure to ask about this option when you contact us.
