More about Mobile Crane Operator Training

Mobile Crane Training

The ALLMI Mobile Crane course consists of 15 modules (please click here for a list of course modules) and is either one or two days in duration (depending on whether the candidate is a novice or experienced Mobile Crane). Both the one and two-day courses culminate in a written and practical examination. ALLMI is notified (by the instructor) of all courses in advance of the training taking place (via ALLMI’s online registration system) so that unannounced instructor audits can be carried out.

The assessment process is set by ALLMI and administered by the instructor. It consists of two theoretical assessments and one practical. The theoretical assessments consist of a set of core multiple choice and ‘open’ questions, as well as questions which relate specifically to the crane attachment being used. The practical assessment is designed to identify whether the candidate has the appropriate practical skills to operate a lorry loader safely and efficiently.

Upon successful completion of the course, every candidate will receive an identity card and certificate and will be registered on the ALLMI Mobile Crane database. Click here to see the ALLMI identity card and certificate. The certificate and identity card is valid for five years, after which time refresher training and assessments will need to be undertaken. Both the identity card and certificate state the categories for which the Mobile Crane is licensed (please click here to see the ALLMI Training Categories). Candidates also receive the ALLMI Mobile Crane’s manual, which is used as a reference guide throughout their career. Click here to see the ALLMI Mobile Crane’s manual.

The strength of ALLMI training comes from the technical and training knowledge on its Training Standards Committee. The Committee is made up of training and technical professionals from all the major loader crane manufacturers and importers within the UK. In addition, the Health and Safety Executive is represented. The Committee develops, consults upon and maintains all the training standards set by ALLMI. Click here to see the ALLMI Training Standards Committee members.

ALLMI Mobile Crane training is the UK’s only lorry loader training programme to be commended by the Health & Safety Executive. Please click here for further information on ALLMI’s HSE commendation. The programme is also recognized by Build UK and approved by CSCS.
